Do I Need A LifeCoach?

1 Kings 19:19 - “So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat,

who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth:

and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.”

What is a LifeCoach?

Years ago when Michael Jordan was at the height of his Basketball game and career, we found out what he was doing to be so much better than every other player on the court.  In addition to team practices and games, he was investing even more of his personal time in training.  He had hired himself a personal trainer.  His personal trainer helped him see where he could improve and continually pushed him to better himself.  Sports is not the only area of life where we can receive help and direction from someone else so that we can better ourselves.  Personal trainer, peer mentor, career mentor, life mentor, accountability partner, therapist, encourager, consultant, advisor, counselor are all descriptive word pictures of details that the LifeCoach gets involved in person-to-person assistance.  Elijah was a LifeCoach for Elisha.  Jesus was a LifeCoach for his disciples.  The Apostle Paul was brought up being trained and mentored by Gamaliel, one of the greatest teachers of the ancient world.  All of us need help from someone.  The question is, “Do we realize we need help soon enough to get it to improve us and our impact on others?”  In 2 Timothy 2:2 Paul wrote, “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”  Here is a LifeCoach path. An individual learns, then teaches, then the second learner becomes the teacher.  This is the path of being a LifeCoach or receiving help from one.  Being a LifeCoach includes teaching and learning but it is also so much more.  Paul wrote in Philippians 4:9, “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”  LifeCoaching is pouring yourself into someone else, not just instructing but also leading by example.  While LifeCoaching emerged in the 1980’s and the earliest LifeCoaches focused simply on life planning, LifeCoaching has enveloped other areas of life such as individual relations, interpersonal relationships at home and at work, finances, careers, well-being, health, and religious paths along life’s journey. Elijah passed by Elisha while Elisha was plowing in a field with oxen.  Elijah threw his mantle over the back of Elisha indicating that he was about to have a career change.  Elisha understood the importance and left the family farming business and took up learning, accompanying, and following Elijah and followed in his ministry career path.

How Can I Benefit From A LifeCoach?

There are many benefits that one can gain from incorporating a LifeCoach into one’s life.  Proverbs 9:9 reads, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.”  LifeCoaching can help a person become a better person in the areas or fields of life that she focuses on improving.  What are some signs a person may benefit from a LifeCoach: Frequently irritated by a person or the responsibilities at work, daily living with higher than normal levels of stress and anxiety, unable to be creative, ongoing feeling of dissatisfaction with the job or at home, unfulfilled in your social life, and unable to break through the glass ceiling to reach your goals in health, career, relationships, life, etc.

When we set out to better ourselves we then come face-to-face with our biggest hurdle, changing our life habits.  This is where having a LifeCoach becomes most beneficial.  LifeCoaching is a designed agreement and team approach to addressing and overcoming these life habits.  LifeCoaching places the one being coached back in control and gives them the power over their life.  Instead of living by the phrase “Life happens” (which it does), a LifeCoach client regains his confidence to be the one that makes “Life happen” instead of letting it “happen” to him.  LifeCoaching can empower you to take back control of your life.  Since you are the only true expert (with God’s direction) who can know and recognize what is best for you, having a coach can help you identify what your “best” might be or become. Connecting with and becoming the best you through a LifeCoach may help you in the following areas:

-Confidence, Self-worth and Self-esteem

-Successful and loving relationships

-Positive, upward career adjustments

-Fulfillment while living out your purpose

-Taking care of your Self needs

-Getting a handle on maintaining control of your emotions like Anger and Frustration

-Working through grief

-Health and nutrition

You may have identified a need in your life right now for a LifeCoach and desire a positive change you want.  Now, if you want that change, a LifeCoach may be what you need to help you discover your obstacles and challenges as well as choosing the right course of action to attain the change you desire.

The Bible Encourages LifeCoaching

Proverbs 27:17 reads, “ Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Finding a LifeCoach can be a great benefit to you becoming who you want to be and accomplishing your goals.  1 Corinthians 11:1 states, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” The Apostle Paul could write that to the believers at Corinth because he had lived among them and led many of them to Christ.  After leading them to Christ, he then discipled them after the manner of Christ.  He was their LifeCoach leading them out of bad habits and sinful choices to better lives.  Many believers today have been born again, yet have not been discipled or connected with the right LifeCoach.  Ecclesiastes 4:9 says, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.” Having a LifeCoach come alongside you and assist you as you progress in your life to attain greater fulfillment will help you in improving your relationships, careers, and day-to-day life.
